Meet Dr. Symko

Hello. My name is Dr. Greg Symko and I’m a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist. That makes me different than most chiropractors, but what makes me unique is that in April 1999 I suffered a stroke. And what makes me really unique is that I recovered and utilize many of the therapies I learned on my recovery journey to help others who have had strokes. I also use these therapies to successfully treat fibromyalgia, chronic pain, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, learning disorders such as Autism and ADHD, and many other brain based issues.

My life change forever when I had a stroke and I thought it was over at the time. Looking back, I know now that a new life only begun. It took nearly seven years and many mistakes and falls for me to recover enough to return to chiropractic practice. During those seven years I worked for several pharmaceutical companies as a drug safety officer. I learned about all the terrible side effects drugs have and that many of the physicians doing the research did not want to take the drugs they were studying.

Much can be learned about how the brain works through studying the effects of stroke. With a stroke there is damage to parts of the brain and that damage shows up as an inability to use an arm or leg, or double vision, or high blood pressure or learning disabilities, speech problems, severe pain, dizziness, nausea, and a whole host of other problems.

What research is discovering is that many chronic health issues can usually be traced back to problems with brain function or what we Functional Neurologists like to call brain balance. Although there is no brain damage or cell death as with a stroke, just a connection problem or weakness in certain parts of the brain can cause pain and problems.

A Functional Neurologist is a primary healthcare professional who may care for patients with a variety of concerns from wellness to stroke recovery. Care is non-surgical, non-pharmacological, and based on well- established neuroanatomy and physiology, published research, clinical past experience and therapeutic trials. This background combined with my experience of recovery gives me a special insight into many chronic conditions that plague society today. All this helps me unlock the mystery of suffering so that I can help guide patients to health and restore their hope.

Look to this blog for weekly information and tips on these chronic conditions – everything from stroke to ADHD. All the best to you and wishing you good health.
